Always
/ Nicola Griffith

Aud Torvington is in Seattle overseeing some
real estate business and teaching a woman’s self-defense
class.
Aud’s mother Elsa the Norwegian ambassador to Great Britain
is also in town and plans to visit with Aud and her friend Matthew
Dornan from Atlanta.
The sometimes blunt half Norwegian/half American lesbian ex-cop
has her hands full. The warehouse she owns is being rented to
a film company making a TV pilot, problems exist on the set and
among the main players. The set caterer Victoria “Kick”
Kuiper provides a romantic interest with several twists along
the way. Meanwhile the women in the self-defense class are learning
about their strengths and weaknesses, both physical and emotional.
And trying to answer the question just how far would you go to
protect yourself or those you love. The two settings never mix
but the inter weaving of the two story lines is complex and complicated.
This book was not my usual traditional or cozy mystery read but
I enjoyed it.
