The Autobiograpny of Miss Jane Pittman / Ernest J. Gaines
On the "banned book list," I found "The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman by Ernest J. Gaines (c. 1971) which is interesting as a novel of a black lady born in slavery prior to Civil War days and lived to see the "second emancipation." Perhaps, should be "required reading" for high school students.
