CHIPS AND CHOPS Sen. Charlotte Burks, Rep. Charles Curtiss, Rep. Henry Fincher  and Wood Carving Artist Bob McCormack watched Robert Porter’s Smith County Middle School 6th graders chip away at a river birch log at the Wood Carving Station during the 13th annual Spin a Tale Frontier Craft and Storytelling Festival on Monday May 5, 2008.  Thanks to arts support by Burks, Curtiss and Fincher, 1085 individuals grade 4 and up from Putnam, White and Smith Counties  enjoyed a day of living history on the Tennessee frontier, presented by 34 professional artists. The audience included 968  public, private and homeschool students, 83 adults, 20 individuals with disabilities, and 27 senior guides and artists. Spin a Tale is sponsored by PCL and Leisure Services and funded by a Tennessee Arts Commission Arts Project grant  to the Library and by donations from Library Friends and Breakfast Rotary.
