Spin A Tale 2007

Sen. Charlotte Burks, Rep. Charles Curtiss, Rep. Henry Fincher joined wide-eyed students at CHEROKEE Station, as Bomba and Keith Easter, Cherokee Interpreters from Fort Southwest Point, demonstrated tools, instruments, weapons and other Cherokee items during Spin a Tale, May 7, 2007, the 12th annual Storytelling and Frontier Craft Festival sponsored by PCL and Leisure Services and funded by a Tennessee Arts Commission Arts Builds Communities grant through Community Foundation to the Library and by donations from Library Friends and Breakfast Rotary.
Over 1218 community members gr. 4 and up, including 1120 public, private and homeschool students, 98 adults, 32 individuals with disabilities, and 22 senior guides and artists, came to PCL and Dogwood Park to experience and present Middle Tennessee frontier life at craft and activity stations. Frontier storytelling, quilting, weaving, spinning, Cherokee life, basketry, long hunter culture, natural dyeing, herbal medicine, butter churning, livestock, blacksmithing, country dance, games and music were presented by 31 professional artists. The Library thanks our Legislators for their support of Arts funding in Tennessee, which made Spin a Tale 2007 possible.
